Woodcrest
Library
The Woodcrest
Library replaced
the much smaller
library located
at Washington &
Van Buren in the Stater Bros
Shopping Center.
Designed to blend into the natural landscape of the community, the new Woodcrest Library is the first LEED
(Leadership in
Energy and
Environmental
Design)
certified
building
constructed by
Riverside
County. “This is
truly something
for the
community to be
proud of”, said
First District
Supervisor Bob
Buster. “The new
Woodcrest
Library is a
model of
sustainable site
development,
water savings,
energy
efficiency,
sustainable
materials usage
and indoor
environmental
quality.
” Some of the
“green” features
designed into
the new library
and its site
include
low-water native
landscaping, a
permeable
parking lot to
reduce and
utilize storm
run-off, and a
building design
which uses and
directs ambient
lighting from
roof and windows
to reduce the
use of
artificial
light. Building
materials have
been selected
with durability
and
sustainability
in mind. The
site also
includes a
water-wise
demonstration
garden, made
possible by a
grant from the
U.S. Bureau of
Reclamation. The
new 10,000
square foot
library, which
received an
American
Institute of
Architects Merit
Award for design
excellence in
the 2005.
