Homeless Shelter
Gets New Set of
Wheels County
Supervisor Bob Buster, who sits on the RTA Board of Directors, helped
facilitate the donation of a 12 passenger van to the Path of Life Ministries shelter as
part of the RTA
vehicle donation
program that
connects buses and
vans with non-profit
groups. Buster said RTA’s donation program prolongs the life of these useful vehicles and
allows groups such as Path of Life Ministries to enhance their services.
“Transportation is critical for helping people get on their feet, restore family and strengthen their financial
opportunities,” Buster said. “RTA is putting tax-payer dollars to good use by giving these vehicles a longer,
more productive life.”

RIVERSIDE COUNTY:
Youth council
collecting for HOPE
First District Supervisor Bob Buster and his Youth Advisory Council are holding a canned food drive between now and Dec. 16 to help fill the cupboards at the Help Our People of Elsinore (HOPE) food bank.
"A growing number of families and people have fallen on hard times and are turning to us for food assistance," said Laurie Howanec, director of HOPE. "It is heartbreaking that they should be worrying about where their next meal is coming from during the holiday season when so much focus is on giving."
"In many cases HOPE is their very last resort," Howanec said. "We want to make sure we have adequate resources to meet the needs in our communities, especially during the holiday season."

Greenhut: Unions turn pension reform on its head
California is facing
an unfunded pension
liability as much as
$500 billion.
According to Steven
Greenhut: "I've
frequently argued
that, as the state
faces an unfunded
pension liability
that's as high as
$500 billion,
California
legislators are not
doing anything about
a problem that is
depleting public
services and
imposing additional
debt and tax burdens
on Californians.
But, in fact, the
state's legislators
are doing something:
They are making the
problem worse by
expanding benefits
and making it harder
for localities to
reduce the crushing
burdens imposed by
these union-friendly
deals".

Flexsteel Industries a furniture manufacturing firm
is recognized for success in the international marketplace
Supervisor Bob Buster recognized a local manufacturer for its decades of success and its commitment to remain and create jobs in the Riverside area.
Supervisor Buster joined other officials March 31 in presenting Flexsteel Industries, Inc., of Riverside, with the county’s Export Award. Flexsteel crafts high-quality furniture, exporting products to more than half a dozen countries including Canada, Indonesia and Australia. The company employs about 200 full-time workers at its plant near the Riverside Municipal Airport and plans to expand its local operations this year.
Supervisor Buster applauded the firm for its loyalty to Riverside and for increasing its workforce at a time when other employers are cutting back. Flexsteel has been in Riverside County since 1978 and also has operations in Santa Fe Springs and Hesperia. It manufactures furnishings for the home, which can be found at Living Spaces and other retailers, and also for use in recreation vehicles.
Dr. Rebecca Patchin Chair, Board of Trustees
American Medical Association and Dr. Nancy
Snyderman chief medical editor for NBC News, presented Supervisor Bob Buster with the Dr.
Nathan Davis Award in Washington D.C. This was in recognition of Buster's influence upon efforts to improve public health throughout the Inland area.
He was given the American Medical Association's national award for outstanding community service in local government.

Reform bloated county pensions
Riverside County put
on the brakes last
year when the
recession's shock
waves hit the local
economy. We halted
new hiring,
temporarily reduced
pay, used reserve
funds and offered
retirement
incentives -- and
the county still has
a $71 million
ongoing deficit.
The county must reform its outdated pension system, not just to survive the current downturn but to ensure future growth and prosperity.
